PGCAC charter members

Premier in Prince George's County, Maryland and one of largest chapters in the historic Eastern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Prince George's County Alumnae Chapter (PGCAC) was officially chartered on March 31, 1974. Celebrating its magnificent evolution and incomparable legacy, PGCAC pays special tribute to the 23 phenomenal women who believed in and embraced change, the chapter's charter members. In so doing, the chapter respectfully honors its first president and organizing force - local activist, educator, and businesswoman Ethel Mae Wooten Rogers Grundy.

Soror Ethel Mae W. Rogers GrundyUnder the leadership of Ms. Grundy, these dynamic she-roes sought to emulate the 22 founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  They dedicated themselves to providing assistance to those in most need, promoting academic excellence and cultural enrichment, and enhancing the overall quality of life for all Prince Georgians.  They served as incomparable role models and mentors and represented diverse career backgrounds inclusive of public school administrators and educators, Federal government managers, and public and corporate executives.

Chartering Sorors Hazel Lewis, Joanna Smith, Ruth Lowe This amazing group of women includes four chapter presidents, Maryland and Pennyslvania State Coordinators, and the first chairperson of the Prince George’s County Delta Alumnae Foundation.  Nineteen of these trailblazing women continue to advance their commitments to Delta today, while four of the charter members have transitioned to eternity, leaving behind priceless, unforgettable memories.

Today, the 650+ chapter members take pride in paying tribute and honoring these noble, visionary, ground-breaking charter members, the mothers of the dynamic, award winning, enterprising sisterhood known as the Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
